OBJECTIVE:
In this experiment, you will investigate which flame is best suited for heating substances.
HYPOTHESIS:
Which is the best flame for heating substances? Luminous or non-luminous? Why?
I think the best flame is the non-luminous flame because the temperature is higher and combust more methane gas completely.
Temperature (°C) Time (mins)
1 24°C 0 min
2 26°C 1 min
3 30°C 2 min
4 38 3 min
5 49 4 min
6 59 5 min
7 70 6 min
8 83 7 min
9 100 8 min

3 45 3 min
4 58 4 min
5 67 5 min

MATERIALS and APPARATUS:
- Bunsen burner set
- beaker
- stopwatch
- beaker
- water
- experiment sheet
- thermometer
- pencil
PROCEDURE:
1. Set up the Bunsen burner.
2. Put in 100 ml of water into the beaker.
3. Put in the thermometer. Where should the thermometer rest? Record the starting temperature.
4. Place the beaker on the wire gauze.
5. Light the Bunsen burner.
6. Record the increase in temperature every minute.
7. Stop the experiment after the temperature reaches 100oC.
8. Extinguish the Bunsen burner.
9. While waiting for it to cool, copy the results from the other group.

Testable Question
- How fast can the non-luminous flame boil an egg?
- Will the luminous flame be able come out from the bunsen burner.
